sascha rose god's tearz [demo]

The ‘god’s tearz’ demo was created and produced during Sascha’s 2026 Driskell Fellowship at Indigo Arts. The demo includes live banjo recordings, Akai MPC One MIDI keys and drums, vocals, and samples from Lauryn Hill’s live recording of ‘Just Like Water’.

the stitchings of the human tapestry will bend our timeline into a spiral

Sascha is a Black, Haitian-American musician and filmmaker. Her Haitian roots have long inspired her work, as she tells stories of colonial resistance, liberation, and connection to the divine. As claims to sovereignty are diffusely woven through Black and Indigenous art, Sascha sees this as the multi- and inter-generational goal for those who have experienced ancestral dispossession. Despite being covertly discussed, she believes that the cartographic mapping of the Black diaspora takes up every medium, academic, artistic, and philosophical alike. Recognizing the responsibility everyone shares as threads in the human tapestry, Sascha is adamant about seeking parallels between artmaking and connection to the divine and ancestral realms. She believes that if these two aspects do not work in tandem, fundamental pillars of the human experience are broken: connection, love, and belonging.

In her music, she blends ambient, blues, and soul elements into genre-bending songs. She is a self-taught music producer who has primarily used Ableton to record all of her music. Now expanding her practice to include drum machines and loop pedals, she is exploring the intersections of electronic production and a blues vocal delivery. By blending and sampling her own voice with the violin, as well as gospel and blues samples, such as those of Pastor T.L. Barrett, Robert Johnson, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, she continues to shape her music through collaboration and an amalgamation of Black genres.
